Christmas Presents

Been very busy recently between work and uni and amigurumi has fallen behind again :(

So I decided to kill two birds with one stone, get back into the habit, and get a Christmas present made too!

Already made a gorgeous jellyfish from AwkwardSoul for my Mum and decided to make another for my sister since she liked him so much.

Somehow ended up using different sized hooks each time and this is the first time I've ever really seen how hook size affects the finished product in a whole piece. Both turned out beautiful and made for an extra special present.

Mother's Day Present

I've not made anything in a while so thought it would be a nice idea to make my Mum something for Mother's Day.

Decided on a pattern i bought a while ago from Luvlygurumi.

This is the bear. So cute.

Hopefully it will come out well, as it will be my first project using the hooks she bought me for Christmas.

New Hooks!

For a long time I've been struggling with aching hands whenever I do any significant amount of amigurumi, which I have read can be quite a common problem.

So for a while I've been after these hooks for a while called Hamanaka Soft Touch crochet hooks (from Japan). I found them on ebay, and although they are quite pricey (I got them for roughly £30 for the set) you do get five double ended hooks, which is pretty much all the sizes you need.

I've not had chance to use them much, but can already tell that they are much better for my hands, and I would recommend them to anyone who has the same problem.

I found the needles quite hard to get hold of originally, but have seen them available on both Etsy and Ebay at one time or another.

Puppy Dog!

Although I've been neglecting my amigurumi slightly recently because of Uni work and Christmas, I did make this little guy before Christmas.

Although he may not look particularly amazing (nowhere near as good as the original pattern by Amy Gaines). However, I'm particularly proud of him, as he's my first project thats had any significant amount of detail (the eyes and nose). And also the first one in which I had to shop specifically for the parts.

Overall im quite proud of him, and think he turned out pretty good.

Noby Noby Boy!

This is by far the biggest project i've made to date.

First, I bought this pattern from Toshwerks.

Based on a character from the game Noby Noby Boy, i made this little guy a few months back, and he took me about 2 months to finish.

Although the was an extremely easy pattern to follow (a head, tube body and bum), his body was so extremely long that it was a long and tedious process to get him to the length i wanted him.

When he was completed though, i was extremely happy with him, as all of the little details came together well, including his little legs which he can actually stand up on.

Too much time off!

I have made the mistake recently of completely stopping my amigurumi. As much as it's not really my fault I've now fallen into the phase of not being bothered to start again.

The reason for my stopping happened in two parts. First, my last project was the biggest I've ever made and because it had a time limit for it's completion I worked my hands to death in order to finish it. Then after that I wanted to give my hands a well deserved break, during this time I moved back to university and so much went on that I didn't have time to start again.

So now I'm going to have to make extra effort to start again, despite having absolutely no free time thanks to my university work.

So now begins my hunt for a nice small pattern to ease myself back in. If anyone could recommend one I'd be grateful.

Project Number One!

I've finally managed to track down my very first amigurumi project! And looking at it now, i realise how much i've progressed.

This is my Gabu. I found the pattern for free at http://www.roxycraft.com/crochet_gabu.htm and decided it looked simple enough for my very first project.

I suppose you could say i've learnt a lot since making this. When i went to track it down, i remembered it being pretty much flawless.

I got a big shock when i found it, he's unbelievably squishy, i suppose i was being way too easy on the stuffing, and the top and bottom of the body are severely gappy (a techniqued ive improved on but not quite mastered just yet.

As flawed as he may be though, i think for a very first attempt at something (and after only two days of crocheting) he came out pretty well. Not to mention his lack of stuffing makes him a great stress ball

A slightly more recent project i made which came out suprisingly well was this goldfish i made for my nephew.

The motivation only came from having orange wool and nothing to do with it, and when i saw the pattern from Amy Gaines i just had to have it.

With the fish being all one colour i found it very easy to go all over the place when stitching on the fins (a mistake i came to realise when making a multi-coloured one).

He came out to look just like the pattern which was worth being very proud of as most of my stuff at this point came out looking slightly wonky.

And best of all, my nephew loved him.

Wood Sprite

Since i can't get a picture of my very first completed project just yet, i thought i would start with one of the more successful ones.

This is a wood sprite (aka a white totoro) from the Anime film My Neighbour Totoro. I found the pattern for free online. Although i can't find the pattern i used, a very similar if not identical pattern can be found at http://heavens-hellcat.livejournal.com/730.html

I was very proud of this one as it was my first project with facial detail. Although the first one came out a tad wonky, the second was much better (just a shame he was made from cheap wool and ended a tad furry.

Getting Started

Hi!

I've been interested in amigurumi for a while now (ever since a received an amazing amigurumi Totoro as a gift), and over the last few months have been trying to make things myself.

I like to think i've been getting better with time, but I have a lot of trouble getting any projects fully finished.

This is where this blog comes in I suppose. I'm hoping that with a place to show my creations i'll be pushed to finish them and make them as perfect as I can.

Over the next few days i'll try and post some pictures of already completed projects and share my progress on anything I make from now on.
